Belhaven, Belhaven

This past weekend we made a quick trip up to Jackson, MS (home of our alma mater, Belhaven College and also where Scott and I first met, dated, made a home, worked, had Tyler). We drove past the old apartments and met my college roommate and family (hi, Kathleen!) for lunch at Keifer's (mmm!). But, left with an hour or more to kill before the wedding we were there for, we took the kids over to Belhaven and showed them around. It was a gorgeous day and so nice to see a much-improved campus from our days there. Although we graduated some time ago, seeing our kids running through the same spots where we first started our relationship - well, it seemed to me to be a completed circle. Incredibly fulfilling to know this was a place so important in our lives - at first it symbolized the tail end of our childhoods and then our introduction to adulthood - it was the place we learned, grew up, first met, first kissed, the place we came back to after getting engaged. And now, to see our kids sticking their feet in the fountain and walking the same sidewalks was incredibly satisfying!

Belhaven has done well for itself as far as the facilities go - we were incredibly jealous to see what a gorgeous campus it's become and incredibly sad to see "our" swing is now gone and replaced by in-ground fountain.

Belhaven, Belhaven, we shall not wholly part,
This dear green hill shall bind us still to God and thee in heart.

I'm not kidding, just within the last hour Michaela asked if you guys had been to Jackson recently (she was talking about Tyler and Lorelei being in the same states they were born in). I got online to check email, etc, and thought I would show her your blog, and there it says you had just been to Jackson. How funny! Love the pictures of the fish above. Christina

Best investment we ever made...sending our boys to Belhaven for a good education and an admonition to date Christian girls who owned a car because they didn't. God is good. All the time. But God's been extra special good to our boys. :)

I share just a little bit of your sentiment here. We have lots of warm memories from the fact that those Belhaven years were the first time we'd sent one of our children off to college, and we felt so good about you being there. It was an exciting time for us, too. When Suzy & I got home after dropping you off for your freshman year, we cried and cried. They were grateful tears, though, for all the joy you'd brought us and our family. It was neat seeing your relationship with Scott take off. Also I'll never forget "Oklahoma!"... painting your dorm room... helping you move (several times!)... eating in the dining hall... attending your concert... Parents' Weekends... visiting you on the job in the Financial Aid office... eating out at some cool restaurants... and so much more!
