Subperitoneal Placenta Accreta Succenturiate in the Case of a Successful Near-Term Extrauterine Abdominal Pregnancy

The above is the title of the article documenting Eben's miracle birth in Human Pathology, a medical journal. The article focuses on the placenta and is chock-full of medical jargon but it's still exciting to see in print. A sucessful abdominal pregnancy is rare enough but even more rare is the opportunity to examine the placenta. Usually the placenta is left in the mom because removing it is very dangerous since it typically is attached to necessary organs. In my case, the placenta was attached to my right fallopian tube and ovary which were also removed. So, the chance to examine the placenta was a pathologist dream come true.

If anyone is interested, here's the article. Beware there's a fun (read: disgusting) photo of my placenta, fallopian tube and ovary lying on a counter - ugh!

I still say they need to put in a picture of our precious Eben to show how wonderful it all turned out!
SUCH a miracle...Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
And for all you blog readers, one thing that kept Rebecca from a bad infection and Eben from death was Scott & Rebecca's refusal to have an amniocentesis when "something looks off" early in the pregnancy. Being faithful to life "no matter what might be wrong", in fact, was not only honoring to God, but held unknown blessing at the time. HUGE. Love, Nona

won't eben have an exciting career in medical school...his entry essay to med school can be about his birth! complete with pictures of his own placenta...no other student will have that much leverage.
